Software Innovation helps FIATECH map out capital
project workflows and checklists
Coreworx to support Element 2
project, part of Capital Project Technology Roadmap
WATERLOO, ON – May 1, 2007 – Software Innovation
Inc., the leading provider of integrated project document and workflow
management systems that control and automate the processes for managing
the lifecycle of engineering-intensive project documentation, today
announced that as part of their ongoing commitment to the FIATECH
industry association, they have donated components of the Coreworx
solution for use in FIATECH’s Element 2 project “Automated Design
Workflow Mapping and Checklists”.
The business case for this FIATECH initiative is
based around standardizing workflows and checklists for capital
projects. According to the project’s Business Case: “Project startup
is critical to the overall success of project execution. Unfortunately,
all too often, there is insufficient time to get organized before work
commences. Starting work without awareness of overall workflow
requirements can result in rework, which is inefficient and costs money.
This project will address the configuration and startup phase of project
execution by providing boilerplates for common work exchanges and
supporting checklists to make communication, setup and coordination
easier.”
According to Ric Jackson of FIATECH, “As a
member-based industry consortium, FIATECH’s success depends on the
support and intellectual capital that our members bring to the projects
that are executed in a highly collaborative setting. In this case, CH2M
HILL identified an immediate business need and brought the issue to the
consortium. Once presented to the membership, 12 additional members
quickly expressed an interest in working with CH2M HILL. Having Software
Innovation provide software tools in support of this project is another
example of how companies working together and leveraging off one another
can make real change happen real fast in this industry, which is
precisely why FIATECH was created.”
Tony Van de Valk of Software Innovation, an active
member of FIATECH and part of the project team for “Automated Design
Workflow Mapping and Checklists” said, “Our goal is to simplify
administration and support the project team as they graphically map out
the business processes and checklists. Moving forward, we can not only
model these business processes in Coreworx but also validate how they
would work in real project situations. Helping EPCs and Owners get their
projects up and running in record time is a key element to overall
project success and Software Innovation is very enthusiastic about this
project.”
